The air was thick with the mouth-watering aroma of food and the deafening roar of chatter. I was queuing for my favourite noodles when a loud, echoing crash abruptly silenced the crowd.

Whipping my head around, I saw Madam Lee, our school’s elderly cleaner, standing amidst a disaster zone. A heavy tray had slipped from her frail grasp, sending bowls and leftover food crashing onto the floor. To my dismay, some students merely snickered or stepped over the mess. Looking closer, I gasped. A jagged piece of broken porcelain had sliced Madam Lee’s finger, and blood was dripping onto the floor.

It was absolutely necessary to intervene immediately; not only was she injured and overwhelmed, but the slippery floor was a severe safety hazard. Without hesitation, I pushed through the crowd. “Please don’t move, Madam Lee,” I urged gently. I fished a clean, folded handkerchief from my pocket and carefully wrapped it around her bleeding finger, applying firm pressure to stem the bleeding.

“Press on this, I’ll be right back!” I instructed. I sprinted out of the canteen and dashed straight to the General Office to grab the white first-aid kit mounted on the wall. Returning swiftly, I cleaned her minor cut with an antiseptic wipe and secured it with a plaster. Once she was bandaged, I helped her sweep the remaining debris into a dustpan.

Madam Lee looked at me, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. “Thank you, young man. You have a heart of gold,” she whispered. Seeing her immense relief, a radiant warmth bloomed in my chest. I felt an overwhelming sense of fulfillment, learning that a timely act of kindness can truly turn someone’s terrible day around.

Thanks for reading PsleNotes! Everyone was eating and chatting happily. Suddenly, a loud crash was heard above the noise.

I turned around and saw our school’s elderly cleaner, Auntie Mary. She had accidentally dropped a heavy tray of dishes. Bowls and leftover food were scattered all over the slippery floor. As Auntie Mary quickly bent down to pick up the broken pieces, she cut her finger on a sharp piece of glass. It started to bleed.

I knew it was necessary to help her immediately because she was injured and the messy floor was dangerous for the other students. I rushed over to her side. “Let me help you, Auntie Mary,” I said kindly. I took out my clean handkerchief from my pocket and gently wrapped it around her bleeding finger to stop the blood.

Then, I ran as fast as I could to the General Office to get the school’s first-aid kit. I brought it back and carefully helped her put a plaster on her cut. After that, I grabbed a broom and helped her sweep up the broken bowls so nobody would step on them and get hurt.

Auntie Mary smiled brightly and thanked me for my help. She said I was a very kind student. Hearing her words made me feel extremely happy and proud of myself. My stomach rumbled in protest, urging me to sprint towards the canteen before the queues became unbearably long. In my haste, I decided to take a quick shortcut through the corridor outside the restrooms.

A bright yellow “Caution: Wet Floor” sign stood prominently in the middle of the hallway, a silent sentinel warning of danger. Driven by impatience and a foolish sense of invincibility, I scoffed at it. “I’ll just run carefully,” I muttered under my breath, making the most regretful decision of the day.

As I rounded the corner at breakneck speed, my shoes lost all traction on the slick, soapy tiles. I flailed my arms wildly in a desperate attempt to regain my balance, but gravity was unforgiving. I crashed heavily into my classmate, Sarah, who was walking out of the washroom with her brand-new smartphone in hand.

The device flew from her grasp, hitting the hard floor with a sickening crack. Time seemed to stand still as we stared at the phone. The pristine screen had shattered into a chaotic spiderweb of glass. Sarah’s initial shock quickly morphed into absolute fury. Her eyes darted from the broken phone to me, her fists clenched tight. “Look what you’ve done!” she bellowed, her voice trembling with anger.

A heavy tidal wave of remorse washed over me, and I hung my head in shame. My reckless action had destroyed my friend’s valuable property. I deeply regretted ignoring that glaring yellow warning sign just to save a few mere seconds.

I stammered a profuse apology and promised to pay for the screen replacement using my hard-earned savings. That expensive incident served as a painful but necessary wake-up call. I learned the hard way that safety rules and warning signs are put in place for a reason, and ignoring them can lead to disastrous consequences.

Thanks for reading PsleNotes! Since we could not go out to the school field, my friends and I decided to play a game of catching inside the classroom during recess.

Our teacher had always warned us not to run indoors, but we turned a deaf ear to her advice. I was the ‘catcher’ and I was chasing my friend, Ali. He dodged past a row of desks, and I ran blindly after him. Suddenly, I tripped over a stray school bag. I lost my balance and my hands slammed hard onto my classmate Chloe’s desk.

To my absolute horror, I accidentally swept her smartphone off the edge. It hit the ground with a loud smash. Chloe heard the noise and rushed over. When she saw the cracked screen of her phone, her face turned red with anger. She pointed her finger at me and scolded me loudly for being so careless and playful.

I stood there with my head hung low, feeling my face burn with shame. I deeply regretted disobeying the teacher’s rules. If I had not played catching in the classroom, Chloe’s phone would still be in perfect condition.

I apologised sincerely to Chloe and told her I would use my own pocket money to pay for the repairs. From that day on, I learned a bitter lesson. My lungs felt like they were bursting, and every muscle in my legs screamed for me to surrender. This was the final lap of the school’s annual cross-country race, and I was flagging.

Just as I was about to slow to a crawl, the memory of my coach’s voice echoed in my mind: “The race isn’t won by the fastest, but by the one who refuses to stop.” I gritted my teeth, tasting the metallic tang of sweat and rain. I shifted my focus from the pain to the rhythm of my breathing.

With a sudden surge of adrenaline, I found my “second wind.” I propelled myself forward, overtaking two runners who had succumbed to the fatigue. When I finally crossed the line, I collapsed onto the grass, gasping for air. I hadn’t won the gold medal, but I had conquered the voice in my head that told me to quit. The sense of triumph was electrifying.

Word Count: ~185 words

Thanks for reading PsleNotes! I had returned to retrieve my water bottle, but my feet froze mid-stride. There, lying unguarded on Mrs. Tan’s desk, was the Holy Grail of primary school: the Science Quiz Answer Key.

A surge of adrenaline spiked through my veins. My heart hammered against my ribs like a trapped bird. I knew that with one quick glance, I could secure an AL1 and finally make my parents proud. An insidious voice in my head whispered, “No one is watching. Just one peek.”

I reached out, my fingers trembling as they brushed the edge of the paper. However, as I stared at the bold print, a wave of cold dread washed over me. I remembered the disappointment in my father’s eyes the last time I had been dishonest. Integrity, he always said, was doing the right thing even when the world was looking away.

The “pre-explosion” tension in my chest was unbearable. With a sharp intake of breath, I snatched my water bottle and bolted out of the room. I had chosen the difficult right over the easy wrong. During the quiz, my hands were steady. I went back to take my pencil case. Suddenly, I saw a piece of paper on the teacher’s table. It was the answer key for the Science test later!

My heart started to beat very fast. I was very tempted to look at the answers. If I knew the answers, I would surely get full marks. I looked at the door to make sure no one was coming. My hands were sweaty and I felt very nervous.

Then, I thought about my teacher, Mrs. Tan. She trusted us to be honest. If I cheated, I would be a liar. I felt a big lump in my throat and my stomach felt tied in knots. I knew that cheating was wrong.

I quickly looked away from the paper and ran out to the canteen. I did not want to be tempted anymore. When the test started, I felt calm. Even though the questions were hard, I was happy because I did not cheat. As I finished my bowl of fishball noodles, a flash of brown leather caught my eye. Tucked beneath the leg of a stool was a bulging wallet. My heart performed a nervous somersault.

Checking that no one was watching, I snatched it up. It felt heavy—thick with a stack of fifty-dollar notes. A wave of exhilaration washed over me. With this, I could finally buy that limited-edition Ninjago set Jenny had been raving about! However, the “explosion” of excitement was quickly dampened by a cold shiver of guilt. My conscience began to gnaw at me. What if this was someone’s grocery money?

I looked at the canteen vendor, an elderly lady with a face etched with exhaustion. She was frantically searching her apron pockets, her eyes brimming with unshed tears. The realization hit me like a physical blow. The wallet belonged to her.

The internal tug-of-war was brief but agonizing. Taking a deep breath to steady my trembling hands, I approached her. “Auntie, I think you dropped this,” I murmured, handing over the leather pouch. Her face instantly transformed from despair to pure relief.

“Thank you, boy! You are a lifesaver!” she exclaimed, her voice thick with gratitude.

As I walked back to class, the “weight” in my chest had vanished. I could use this money to buy the latest video game. My heart beat fast as I put the wallet into my pocket. But then, I saw the canteen auntie looking very worried. She was looking under the tables and crying. I felt a big lump in my throat. I knew I was being selfish.

I remembered what my teacher always said about being honest. If I kept the money, I would feel guilty forever. I decided to do the right thing. I walked to the stall and gave the wallet back to the auntie.

“Oh, thank you so much!” she said happily. She even gave me a free drink to thank me.

I felt very proud of myself. My parents always told me that honesty is the best policy. Peeking from behind the heavy velvet curtains, my heart hammered against my ribs like a trapped bird. Today was the annual storytelling competition, and it was my turn next. A cold, clammy sweat broke out across my forehead, and my hands, clutching the crumpled script, shook uncontrollably. The mere thought of standing before the entire school was paralyzing.

“Next up!” the emcee announced, his voice echoing through the hall.

My legs felt like lead. I learned that we must be brave and face our fears, no matter how scary they seem.

Word Count: ~220 words

The End

Thanks for reading PsleNotes! I was weaving through the sea of students, my stomach growling like a caged beast, when something caught my eye. Nestled near the leg of a wooden bench was a bulging, leather wallet.

Time seemed to freeze. I knelt down, my heart hammering against my ribs like a trapped bird. As I pried it open, a thick stack of fifty-dollar notes peeked out. My breath hitched. With that amount of money, the limited-edition gaming headset I had been eyeing for months was finally within reach. A devilish whisper in my mind urged me to pocket it. “No one is looking,” it hissed. “Finders keepers.”

I felt a cold sweat break out across my forehead. My fingers trembled as I stood there, caught in a paralyzing tug-of-war between my desire and my conscience. I looked around guiltily, half-expecting a teacher to be staring at me. Just then, I saw a younger boy a few tables away. He was frantically patting his pockets, his face pale and eyes brimming with tears. He looked utterly distraught.

A wave of shame washed over me, instantly extinguishing my greed. I realized that the money wasn’t just “extra cash” to him; it was likely his savings or his allowance for the month. My father’s voice echoed in my head: “Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.” Taking a deep breath, I marched over to the boy. “Is this yours?” I asked, holding out the wallet.

The boy’s face transformed from despair to pure relief. “Oh, thank you! Thank you so much!” he sobbed, clutching the wallet to his chest. He explained it was his CCA fund money he was supposed to hand in.

As I walked away, my pockets were empty, but my heart felt strangely light. I hadn’t gained a new headset, but I had gained something far more valuable—a clear conscience. Being honest wasn’t the easiest path, but it was certainly the right one.

The End

Thanks for reading PsleNotes! Students were rushing to buy their favorite food. I was walking to the drink stall when I suddenly stepped on something hard. I looked down and saw a black leather wallet lying on the floor.

I picked it up and opened it. My eyes widened when I saw several fifty-dollar notes inside. I had never seen so much money in my life! Immediately, I thought about the expensive toy robot I had always wanted. If I kept the money, I could buy it today. My heart began to beat fast. I looked around to see if anyone was watching me, but everyone was busy eating and talking.

However, as I was about to put the wallet in my pocket, I saw a younger boy crying near the benches. He was looking under the tables and seemed very worried. He looked like he had lost something very important. Seeing his sad face made me feel a sharp pang of guilt. I realized that keeping the money would be a selfish thing to do.

I walked up to the boy and asked, “Are you looking for this?”

The boy’s eyes lit up with joy. “Yes! Thank you so much!” he exclaimed. He told me the money was for his school fees. I felt a sense of relief wash over me. Even though I did not get my toy robot, I felt proud of myself for being honest. It was the right thing to do.

The End

Thanks for reading PsleNotes!
